Centennial's Lorenzo Brown has accomplished so much in his career.
Yet the 6-foot-5 guard is only a junior, with plenty left to achieve before he finishes high school. The Northside boys player of the year averaged 25 points this past season for Centennial, which lost in the second round of the state playoffs to Norcross, the eventual Class AAAAA champion.
"He's always eager to work on his weaknesses," Centennial coach Allen Whitehart said. "He doesn't want any in his game. We're all trying to make him a more complete player, if that's possible."
College recruiters like what they see. Brown already has attracted notice from Memphis, Kansas, UCLA and Ohio State, among others.
While Centennial's season ended earlier this month, Brown has continued playing with a top club team, the Lou Will Elite. The AAU team plays a national schedule, with tournaments booked in Ohio and Texas.
"I would like to see him take on a bigger leadership role and like to see him become a more polished, complete player," Whitehart said. "I want to see him become a little more physically dominant in the game itself and extend his shooting range."
Brown will have plenty of opportunities to improve and showcase his game. He has been invited to participate in the NBA Top 100 camp for high school players, as well as the Steve Nash Skills Academy.
Brown hopes to do whatever it takes during the offseason to help Centennial become a top contender for next year's state championship. The Knights lost to Norcross in the 2007 Class AAAAA final.
"Hopefully, we'll win the region championship," Brown said. "And maybe win a state championship."
Brown provided many signature moments for Centennial as a junior, most notably his effort in the first-round playoff win over Meadowcreek. He had 30 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, and won the game for the Knights with a pair of clutch defensive plays in the final minute.
"At the beginning of the game I got in some foul trouble and missed most of the first half," Brown said. "At halftime, coach said I had to step it up because we were going to lose. I did what he told me to do, I guess."
